Bill would enshrine ‘right-to-work’ law in NC Constitution

August 28, 2019

. NORTH CAROLINA IS A RIGHT TO WORK STATE. SOME LAWMAKERS SAY THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE STATE CONSTITUTION TO INCLUDE HOW UNIONS SHOULD BE GOVERNED. WHY SHOULD YOU CARE. WE TURN TO BOW MINNICH. THE AFL/CIO BELIEVES THIS WOULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO REVEAL RIGHT TO WORK. BUT THE SPONSORS SAY STATES THAT ARE UNION FRIENDLY HAVE A HIGHER COST OF LIVING. THESE WORKERS ARE PART OF THE COMMUNICATION WORKERS OF AMERICA. NORTH CAROLINA NEEDS TO DO MORE TO ENSURE. ONE UNION MEMBER WILL BE FORCED. WE DO NOT, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE EMPLOYEES HAVE TO GIVE UP A JOB BECAUSE THEY ARE FORCED TO CONTRIBUTE OR JOIN. REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE JUSTIN BURR SEEKED TO ADD THE LANGUAGE TO THE STATE CONSTITUTION. THE VOTERS WOULD DECIDE. IT WOULD WASTE A LOT OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS. AIDEN GRAHAM SAYS NO ONE IS REQUIRED TO JOIN A UNION, THE AMENDMENT IS NOT NECESSARY. THE BILL IS ABOUT POLITICS, NOT PEOPLE. IT DRIVES DOWN WAGES, MEANS THERE’S FEWER PROTECTIONS, WE SEE THE INCOME INEQUALITY IS WORSE IN STATES WITH FEWER UNIONS. WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN OUR STATUTES. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IT’S LESS LIKELY TO HAPPEN. THAT DEBATE CARRIED OVER INTO A MEETING TODAY. THE BILL GNARLY PASSED THAT — NARROWLY PASSED THAT COMMITTEE.
