The Blue House said that it is necessary for
the presence of U.S. Forces in South Korea to continue,… even after a peace treaty
is signed. Such remarks were made after Moon Chung-in,… President Moon’s special diplomatic adviser,
insisted on Wednesday the presence of U.S. troops in South Korea would no longer be justified
should the two Koreas formally end the Korean War. A Blue House official speaking under the condition
of anonymity dismissed the possibility, asserting that the USFK’s role as a mediator between
surrounding powers, such as China and Japan,… is critical. The official also confirmed that Pyongyang
was not among the proposed U.S.-North Korea summit sites that President Moon and U.S.
President Trump discussed on Saturday.
