Famous Landmarks. Houses of Parliament. The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, more Commonly known as the Houses of Parliament. The Palace of Westminster contains over 1.100 rooms, 100 staircases and 4.8 Kilometres of passageways. The Elizabeth Tower, which is often referred to by the name of its main bell Big Ben, is an iconic landmark of London and the United Kingdom. A famous attempt to breach security of the Palace of Westminster was the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Guy Fawkes.
