In defense of our right to protest – Molly Scott Cato MEP

October 19, 2019

Thank you for being here. Thank you for bravely going against the ban on protest in Trafalgar Square. This is the heart of our democracy. This is the place we always come to protest. We protested here against apartheid. We protested here against nuclear weapons. We are now being banned from our protest space. This is completely unacceptable in a democracy. I’m Molly Scott Cato. I’m an MEP. I’ve come here with a group of MEPs because we are defending the European human right to protest. I have never in my life known a situation
where peaceful protest was entirely prohibited. If we do not defend our right to peacefully
protest we can no longer claim to live in a democracy. Thank you for being here today. Please encourage your friends to join us. We must defend our right to peaceful protest.
