Maine Bicentennial Moments: Maine’s Border Treaty

– [Announcer] This is
a Bicentennial Moment from the State of Maine. – Maine’s northern border
is finally settled in 1842, with a treaty negotiated by Daniel Webster of
the United States, and Alexander Baring, Lord
Ashburton for Great Britain. One treaty provision allows an estimated 12,000
runaway slaves to remain free in Canada. (light music) – [Announcer] The
Maine State Archives, 200 years of statehood.
