New political party promises to honour the Treaty

November 29, 2019

The controversial philanthropist
and economist Gareth Morgan is making a move into politics
with a promise of honouring the Treaty of Waitangi. He’s calling it
the Opportunities Party, forming it ahead
of next year’s election. Here’s our political reporter
Eruera Rerekura. This man is known for his work as
an economist and giving to charity, but now he’s turned his attention
to politics. He’s changed his thoughts
about Maori seats. And he promises
to honour the Treaty of Waitangi. Mr Morgan will release his first
policy on the 8th of December. Eruera Rerekura, Te Karere.

  1. Sound like he wants

    Average incomes to increase.

Lower rents and lower house prices.

Probably a capital gains tax, because multi millionaires in NZ don't pay their fair share.

Universal basic income (everyone gets paid, no more going cap in hand to WINZ).

    Honoring the Treaty.
