The Parliament Buildings of Northern Ireland
are located in the Stormont area of Belfast, and are commonly
known as Stormont. It is the current seat of the Northern Ireland
Assembly and the Northern Ireland Executive. The buildings were opened in 1932, and originally housed the Parliament of Northern
Ireland. The building has a fascinating history that parallels the turbulent history of government
in Northern Ireland. The impressive buildings are sited on top
of a hill at the head of a wide avenue, and there are expansive views over the grounds
and the surrounding areas. There are several sculptures and monuments
around this date, commemorating significant events and historical
figures from Northern Ireland. The grounds and buildings attract thousands
of visitors each year.
