President Moon also attended a ceremony Friday
commemorating the South Korean Constitutional Court’s thirtieth anniversary, where which
he brought up the need to revise the Constitution. Here’s what he said this morning. “The Constitution is not flawless or everlasting. Its interpretation is not set in stone nor
is it error-free. I believe the interpretation of the Constitution
constantly evolves in accordance with the spirit of the times and the constitutional
consciousness of the people.” Earlier this summer, the Blue House wanted
to hold a referendum on amending the Constitution alongside the June local elections, but that
proposal failed in Parliament. Despite his call to change the Constitution,
President Moon also stressed that the people’s support for for democracy and human dignity
will never change, and urged the Constitutional Court to follow those principles.
