Rusted Frame 2000 Toyota Tundra

October 15, 2019

Hello Greg Buckley of Buckley’s Auto Care. Today, we
have a case where someone made a really, really bad mistake of not getting a pre-purchase inspection performed
before they bought the vehicle. Now, here
we have what appears to be a nice looking Toyota Tundra.
4 by 4, big sturdy truck. Toyota is renowned for it’s quality and long life. But, let’s take a look underneath. Here, I
want to show you where the frame of
this truck is rotted away and is making this truck very dangerous. There was a recall on these Toyota’s but the
time limit had run out back in early 2015. Remember, please have any used car properly
inspected before you purchase it. Thanks again for watching, Greg Buckley, Buckley’s
Auto Care. Have a great day.

  1. Great tips Greg…we are a bit spoiled with rust in the desert and forget what it may look like đŸ™‚

  2. Just made the same mistake last tuesday… lower control arms and right above have a small hole in the frame. Rear end of the frame was great, had to tear the wheels off to see the rust.

  3. Sadly this will eventually happen to all vehicles in the northeast. You can only waste hours of your life taking measures to slow it down.

  4. My 2002 2.4L Toyota Rust-Coma leaf spring SEPARATED from the frame rail.
Which made the rail rest on the bracket. I just finished repairing it
and spraying rustoleum truck bed liner on the whole frame (took the bed
    off, 6 bolts).
Toyota said they won't replace it just because it had a salvaged title.
Rust-Comas are NOTORIOUS for rusting in THAT SAME SPOT something about
inferior anti-corrosion. Fuck I say there wasn't any Turns out a tree
fell on it, the frame was never touched and it has never been in a wreck
    in its life. Fucking pricks ,,|,, <*_*> ,,|,, …anywho

Hell I could fix yours easily, grind off the surface much as possible.
Hammer out the rust also drill a large hole in the frame, get a hose and
flush out all that shit outta it. Use that hole and spray the fuck on
the inside. I recommend what I used. then get some angle iron 3" x 3" and bar stock to cover the rest up for the entire length I recommend 3/16 this will ensure it will never
have any structural problems. Then weld the fuck out of it with a STRONG
MIG welder. Last but certainly not least spray the area (or better yet
the entire frame) but I recommend wiring it first to make it more
effective. The hardest part it welding the spring back or the truck will
    turn if its not strait.

    There's nothing dragon can't fix…
(it DEF pays to be a welder)

  5. Hello Mr. 2000 model toyota getting your new frame! How can you get your truck fixed and it a 2000 model and my piece of junk is a 2007 model. CAN YOU REPLY BACK concerning my request? Hope you are not afraid?!

  6. Thank you for such a insightful sharing of your knowledge. I'm looking at tacoma trucks and with your video help I feel confident in inspecting for myself. Again thank you very much.

  7. Man, they got screw. Someone should take Toyota to court. Thanks for sharing the advice, only a real professional would share this to save customers investment.

  8. that type of ROT is NORMAL on LAND ROVERS , it is TOTALY RE-PAIRABLE , but lots of garages DO NOT empoly staff with the ability to do such re-pairs

  9. Nicely done video! FYI… much of this could have been prevented with rust control maintenance in the form of annual oil spray.  Corrosion occurred from the inside out and hammering the inside of all double wall areas with bar oil in the spring would prevent this. Most corrosion occurs during the warmer months of spring and summer. Frequent washing is not enough where salt brine deicers are used.

  10. This only happens to Toyota. Not true of course. I've been running Fords, Chevrolets, Dodges, Jeeps, Volkswagens, Subarus, a Buick, and they all rust. To the point you can't run them. It's a double whammy with Toyota because their drive trains often last 300,000 miles or more. For instance, I recently was going to do some brake work on my Ford PU and the little gizmos that are used to bleed the system were so rotted off they were almost non-existent.

I see this is an old video, Toyota did do a recall on a series of frames. Total frame replacement on those that were already rusty and re-coating on those that were more pristine.

  11. Toyota will do nothing for these… they wiped their hands clean with the 2000-2004 Tundras by doing the undercoating and replacing the spare tire carrier. They lost the truck market from people in the know because of these thin frames with poor metallurgy. Never buying a Toyota or Lexus truck/suv!

  12. I have been saving money for over a year to pay down on a new Toyota Tundra but the 2000 Toyota Tundra I have now frame is Rusted completely into and undriveable how do I see about getting this problem fixed I will not buy a new tundra until I get this one fixed.
