Three Taranaki-based tribes are also
set to sign provisional agreements with the Crown this weekend. Ngaruahine, Taranaki and Te Atiawa are expected to sign documents
tomorrow in Wellington. The deals include commercial,
financial and cultural restitution, but Treaty Settlements Minister
Chris Finlayson says a share in oil-and-gas royalties
will not be part of any agreement. Oil and gas operations in Taranaki
contributes $2 billion to NZ’s economy, with $400 million in
royalties going to the Government.
