The Second Amendment – The Story of the Bill of Rights

November 11, 2019

The Second Amendment: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The Second Amendment is so poorly written. Even the Framers sometimes didn’t do a very good job of writing down what they meant. And the problem with the Second Amendment and reading it is that you can’t quite tell from reading it whether what it means to say is, we want to protect the states that have a National Guard or a state militia from the federal government, or it means everybody’s entitled to have a gun. We created the defense of the rights of this country and the revolution out of the militias in the states or the colonies coming together to fight against tyranny.
