Using A Fake Book In Ab Major : Playing A Composition: Measures 1 & 2

October 26, 2019

Now we are going to take a look at a little
bit more complicated bebop tune and we are just going to go a couple of measures at a
time. So you can go through and see how it is put together compositionally and see how
the melody and the chords all come together. So we have our first 2 chords here again we
are in the key of A flat major so you have your first chord A flat major, E flat 7 and
F minor and D flat minor. So if you remember your pianist pallet that is your 1 major,
your 5,7, your 6 minor and your 2 minor so your 4 basic chords out of A flat major all
in the first 2 measures. So all these chords come out of A flat major and are in the same
scale. Then your melody line here starts on the 6 so you got A flat, 1,2,3,4,5,6 it starts
on the 5th. It goes 5,7, you see how it goes up a 3rd, then flat 7,6 and then flat 7 to
regular 7 so if you play it. So just start on your A flat major, E flat 7, F minor, then
you land on the C7 which is the next chord which we are going to go over in the next
segment.
