August 28, 2019

RICHMOND LAWMAKERS SCHEDULED A NOVEMBER SHOWDOWN FOR THE STATE’S RIGHT TO WORK LAW. ON THIS YEAR’S BALLOT YOU WILL SEE AN OPTION TO MAKE THE LAW PART OF THE STATE’S CONSTITUTION. IT’S A MOVE THAT HAS UNION LEADERS ON EDGE AND BUSINESS LEADERS ALL IN FOR THE VOTE. BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF THE LAW BECOMES PART OF THE CONSTITUTION 10 ON YOUR SIDE’S MATT GREGORY IS LIVE WITH THAT ANSWER RIGHT TO WORK LAWS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SEEN AS ANTI-UNION AND PRO-BUSINESS. IN THIS CASE, COME NOVEMBER YOU WILL BE DECIDING WHETHER OR NOT IT BECOMES AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSITUTION, SOMETHING THATS NOT EASILY OVER TURNED. SIT DOWN WITH ARNOLD OUTLAW, PRESIDENT OF THE STEELWORKER WORKERS UNION LOCAL 8888 AND RIGHT AWAY YOU’LL KNOW WHAT’S ON HIS MIND. ARNOLD OUTLAW/ LOCAL 8888 C00007 11:23:57 “OUR STATE IS NOT THE RIGHT TO WORK STATE IT IS THE RIGHT TO WORK-FOR LESS .” 11:24:02 UNDER THE CURRENT LAW, EMPLOYERS CAN’T FORCE UNION MEMBERSHIP AS A REQUIREMENT FOR WORKERS. OUTLAW SAYS THE LAW HURTS WORKERS, ESPECIALLY THE ONES HE REPRESENTS. UNION LABOR. ARNOLD OUTLAW/ LOCAL 8888 C00007 11:26:18 “YOU’RE GONNA HAVE QUALITY WORK, THE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO COME TO WORK AND YOU’RE GONNA HAVE GOOD WAGES. YOURE GONNA HAVE GOOD BENEFITS.” 11:26:25 COME NOVEMBER THE OPTION TO MAKE RIGHT TO WORK AN AMENDMENT WILL BE ON THE BALLOT. A FACT THAT FRUSTRATES OUTLAW. ARNOLD OUTLAW/ LOCAL 8888 C00007 1124:35 “TO PUT IT IN THE CONSTITUTION, ONCE IT GETS IN THERE WE’LL IN OUR FAVOR.” 11:24:46 IN THIS CASE, THAT MAY BE THE ONLY THING OUTLAW AND BRYAN STEPHENS–THE HAMPTON ROADS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRESIDENT– AGREE ON. BRYAN STEPHENS / HAMPTON ROADS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE C00028 11:41:25 “IT’S A LITTLE HARDER TO CHANGE A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT THAN IT IS TO CHANGE A LAW.” 11:41:29 STEPHENS SAYS TO HIM THE LAW MAKES VIRGINIA APPEALING. NO FORCED UNION ON EMPLOYERS. AS A PART OF THE CONSTITUION, HE SAYS IT WILL GIVE VIRGINIA A LONG-TERM EMPLOYMENT LAW. BRYAN STEPHENS / HAMPTON ROADS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE C00028 11:42:05 “THIS LAW IS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU START LOOKING AT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS AND BRINGING ORGANIZATIONS AND JOBS TO HAMPTON ROADS.” 11:42:13 TWO SIDES OF THE EMPLOYMENT DEBATE, WITH A SHOWDOWN IN THE BALLOT BOX BEFORE THIS COULD MAKE IT ON THE BALLOT, THIS REFERENDUM HAD TO BE PASSED BY BOTH HOUSES OF VIRGINIA’S LEGISLATURE. THAT WAS A TWO YEAR PROCESS THAT WIL COME TO A HEAD IN NOVEMBER IN PORTSMOUTH MATT GREGORY 10 ON YOUR SIDE.
